Nowadays, it is almost normal to be present on Instagram and provide your followers with daily/weekly updates from your life. What do we share? We share moments in our lives that we feel are special and worth sharing. Hashtags also allow us to optimize our shared moment so that many people can find it and see that we have experienced something great. However, if you search for these hashtags (e.g. outfit of the day, because we felt especially good/beautiful on that day), you quickly realize that you are not the only one, but have to share the virtual stage with thousands of others.
In this project I tried to create an “average picture” from all these special individual moments. By superimposing over 100 publicly accessible photos of strangers collected under a hashtag, I created an “average photo” of these moments. So an average emotion.
Each image consists of about hundred photos people self categorised under a specific hashtag:
#bff (best friend forever)
#smile
#ooftd (outfit of the day)
#kiss
